Peer Review and M4

Where This Fits

M4 is the structured peer review checkpoint. Treat it as a group project artifact unless your course instructions explicitly say otherwise.

The goal is actionable feedback: comments specific enough that the receiving group can improve the final portfolio without guessing.

What to Review

Use four lenses:

Lens Question
Correctness Do the claims match the code output and evidence?
Reproducibility Can the report and KT product run or render?
Auditability Are data source, AI use, and limitations visible?
KT value Does the product fit the intended audience?

Review Sequence

  1. Open the repository.
  2. Read the README first.
  3. Try the documented render or run path.
  4. Inspect the report, dashboard-style product, and data/source notes.
  5. Complete the M4 files listed in M4: Peer Review.
  6. Name one blocking risk or state why no blocking risk was found.

Useful Feedback

Helpful:

The report renders, but the dashboard path in the README points to an old folder. Update the README and rerun the dashboard test before final submission.

Less helpful:

Good project.

M4 Files

M4 uses milestones/m4-peer-review/submission/.

The required files are:

  • peer-review.md
  • reproducibility-check.md
  • auditability-check.md
  • kt-feedback.md
  • ai-use-note.md

Do not invent extra files unless your group needs them for organization.

At the end of peer-review.md, add the three short reflection prompts from the M4 brief: what the review changed in your own thinking, one limitation/bias/ stewardship issue that deserves attention, and one review habit you will apply to your own project. No separate reflection file is submitted.

AI Use in Peer Review

AI may help organize feedback or identify unclear prose. It must not invent evidence. Reviewers still need to inspect the repository, rendered output, citations, and limitations themselves.

Before Sending Feedback

Check that your comments are:

  • specific;
  • respectful;
  • tied to evidence;
  • prioritized;
  • useful before final submission.
