AI Auditing
Use these prompts with your AI assistant:
Audit: “I am about to commit these changes. Explain what I changed in plain English. Did I delete anything important?”
Use this to spot accidental deletions or unintended edits before you commit.
Scribe: “Based on this diff, write a one-sentence, professional commit message for my Quarto document.”
Check that the message captures the intent (e.g.,
"Filter patient cohort to age ≥ 65 per protocol"), not just the action ("changed line 42").Panic: “VS Code shows this error: [PASTE ERROR]. What does it mean in simple terms and what buttons should I click?”
Never run random terminal commands suggested by an AI (especially
--forceorreset --hard). Prefer the VS Code visual interface, which is safer. If the AI suggests a terminal command, ask it for the GUI equivalent first.
From Prompts to Submission Files
The three prompts above produce text you will reuse as evidence in Assignment 3. After using AI to explain your diff or draft a commit message, copy the useful part into git-audit-note.md. For pull-request-evidence.md, paste the PR link or screenshot filename and one sentence explaining what the PR shows.
For example, git-audit-note.md could look like:
## Diff summary (AI-assisted, verified by me)
Changed one sentence in README.md to clarify where the data file lives.
No code lines were added or removed.
## .gitignore check
Confirmed secrets and temporary files are excluded. Required HTML remains committable.
## AI-use sentence
I used Copilot Chat to summarize the diff; I re-read the diff myself
and confirmed the summary is accurate.
## M0 readiness
All group members can open the shared repo and have committed at least once. And pull-request-evidence.md could look like:
Both files go in assignments/assignment03-git/submission/.
