Literature

Type 2 diabetes is a metabolic disorder that is characterized by high blood sugar levels and insulin resistance. There is a growing body of evidence that, for type 2 diabetes, obesity is a well-established risk factor. Possible mechanism includes excess body fat leading to insulin resistance, while impairing the body’s ability to regulate blood sugar levels.

Research question

“Does obesity increase the risk of developing diabetes?”

Exposure: Being obese

Outcome: Developing diabetes

Tip

The primary goal of the research is not to answer a clinical question or to draw conclusions about the relationship between obesity and diabetes in the general population, but rather to use the relationship as a motivating example for conducting simulations that compares different statistical methods.
