Causal Research question
The objective is to assess the efficacy of Right Heart Catheterization (RHC) in reducing mortality among patients in intensive care units (ICUs).
The analysis will begin with a logistic regression model to assess the initial effect of RHC on mortality. Potential biases inherent in propensity score matching will be explored (Karim 2021). The application of propensity score matching will be demonstrated, highlighting its potential limitations. The use of Targeted Maximum Likelihood Estimation (TMLE) (Frank and Karim 2024) or Double Cross-fit TMLE (DC-TMLE) will be justified and will be employed to estimate the treatment effect on mortality.
